Menopausal HRT

Hormone replacement therapy for perimenopausal and menopausal women, typically estrogen ± progesterone.

Fact-checked 12 May 2026Plain-English Reference

Modern menopausal HRT uses transdermal estrogen and oral or vaginal progesterone (when a uterus is present). It is the most effective treatment for vasomotor symptoms and reduces bone-loss risk. The 2002 WHI findings have been substantially recontextualized; current NAMS guidance supports HRT for symptomatic women under 60 or within 10 years of menopause.
